Taara Jewelry is one of my newest discoveries.
The designer behind it is the very talented Megha Jain. Megha’s collections include earrings, necklaces, bracelets, rings and pendants. The interesting part is that she not only focuses on the design, but also chooses stones with a great healing power.
As she states “Each piece has been designed to be worn as a statement piece, worn by itself”.
Megha was kind enough to sent me to review a pair of beautiful earrings from her latest Fall-Winter 2012 collection which is called Mohabbat.
The earrings are 22k gold plated black enameled minaret earrings with seed pearls and they are just beautiful. They are also a great quality. I just can’t stop looking at them. A pair of earrings like these always makes a statement and it gives a great accent to every outfit. If you want to accessorize a little black dress these earrings would be the perfect choice. They can also be a great gift for Christmas. Wearing them just feels great and they are for sure my new favorite piece of jewelry.

When did you realize you wanted to become a designer?
When I was in college, I thought I would be CEO of a company. While I am the CEO of my own company, I thought I would have been in finance. However, I am so happy that I am not! It took me a long time to be comfortable with what I do. Being from a strict Indian family that puts education and job first, it was hard to tell my parents that I wanted to quit Morgan Stanley and start a jewelry company. I had to convince myself first that this was what I wanted to do. Now, I never look back. Best decision I made.
What matters to me most is making a product that I truly believe in and stand behind. If the quality is not good or the color is not right, I would not want my customers and buyers to lose faith in me because I am selling a faulty product.
From design to actual product-in-hand is usually about 3-4 weeks. My designing process can be two weeks or can take me months depending on how intricate the collections is. Once I have the design sketched, I scan a copy of it to my factory. They produce the mold and then each step of the way, from making the foundation of the piece to setting the stones, they send me pictures of it so I can approve along the way. Once everything has set and dried, they ship it to me in Hong Kong.
